Another important consideration when choosing eyeglass frames is color. Every person falls in to one of two color categories, some people have warm complexions (yellow undertones) and some people have cool complexions (blue undertones). By determining your complexion you are able to focus on choosing a frame that will enhance your appearance.

There are three important factors in determining your overall complexion.

  • Your skin, your eyes and your hair. Your skin is the most important factor as there is no changing it, it is what it is and it covers your entire body.
  • Eyes are a secondary factor in determining complexion as they can vary drastically even within a single color family. There are warm amber colored eyes and drak chocolate eyes that all fall in to the family of brown but some are warm and some are cool.
  • Finally hair needs to be considered. Hair color for some people is often subject to change. If you change your hair color often and wear eyeglasses try to stay within a certain temperature family(warm or cool) when making your hair color decision. This will probably happen automatically as a qualified color professional will tone whatever hair color you choose to match your skin tone.

As a rule of thumb warm complexions, those with yellow undertones, look best in warm colored eye glasses. Ambers, oranges, some reds, warm blues and greens and blonde tortoises are all great options. For cool complexions, those with blue undertones, you are best off in roses, cool blues, purples and magentas, black, grey and dark tortoises.
